Get your sunscreen and explorer's hat on, because Snowbreak's 2.3 update is kicking off soon. We're hitting the deserts of Beiting to look for a mysterious mineral important to understanding the mysterious Awakening Dust. Let's see what's on offer as the cast heads off to sand land.
If you complete all the missions this event, could you say that you've mastered Beit-
Actually, I'm not going to finish that sentence.
New Operative: Fritia - Turbo Hare
Have you ever decided that you don't want to aim while playing your third-person shooter game? Well boy do I have a character for you. Fritia - Turbo Hare brings new and innovative gameplay by letting you just look in the general direction of an enemy to shoot them, while also not needing to manage skill cooldowns and rotations like Marian - Swift. Because that's so 2023.
Jokes aside, it really does feel like Seasun only wants to make skill DPS characters these days, but realized that they can't exactly have five of the last six DPS releases all be skill damage-based. So instead of designing a proper ballistic damage character, they made another skill damage kit and made Fritia look like a ballistic character by letting you shoot to do the damage at the end.
Reruns
Mauxir - Shadow Ka
This rerun wasn't actually announced until a few days after the initial event details were posted, and even then they were stuck deep in the wall of text that is the EN event details post. And if you were wondering, yes I did have to remake the entire events timeline on the homepage to put her rerun banner in the right slot near the top. Pain.
But back to Mauxir. She's still a top-tier support as the value of having a stationary target to unload all your damage on is still unmatched, and the damage amp that comes with it proves useful for both ballistic and skill damage supports alike. Seasun has been keen to limit her effectiveness by churning out bosses that spam invulnerability periods which cut off her support skill early, but she'll still find use against many Neural Sim threats as well as being a one-button-solution to enable quick removal of any elite enemies you might meet in normal gameplay.
Lyfe - Infinite Sight
Well uh, I hope you pulled for Fenny - Starshine this event during her rerun.
I'm not entirely sure why Lyfe and Fenny had their reruns staggered considering Cherno - Enigma and Enya - Exuvia had a double rerun that went just fine, but can anyone understand the decisions that Seasun makes? Regardless, Lyfe - Infinite Sight is a seriously good DPS operative, being a frequent sight in Neural Sim lineups and making short work of enemies elsewhere. She has just enough mobility to be fun while not potentially inducing motion sickness, and is a worthwhile pickup for anyone looking for a modern high-performance ballistic DPS.
Event Game Modes
Joining the usual copy-paste events of Brave Squad, Hero Games, and wave defense, we get Defense Line Zero and Torrent of Fire back on rotation. I don't think either has been changed since the last time we saw them.
We do have two new game modes, though. Spectral Fantasies is a roguelike where you have to manage your inventory Resident Evil-style to obtain buffs that'll help you in your journey. Seven-Day Carnival is like one of those 8-games-in-1 off-brand video games that you see at the discount shelf at your local department store. The minigames in it should be fun enough, but I wouldn't expect anything too substantial.
Oh yeah, I asked Seasun about why Brave Squad is now solo-only as opposed to have a co-op stage in the past. Apparently people complained about that so it's not a thing anymore. It is what it is, I guess.
Skins
The theming of this skin batch is all over the place, but they should be popular enough regardless. Keen-eyed readers might recognize the Siris skin from a teaser that was posted a while ago. It's on sale in the paid shop alongside Fritia's outfit, while Enya's yoga getup is available through the battlepass and the battle-damaged Chenxing outfit will be in the Bright-Ticket shop. Apparently people were running out of things to buy in there, so it's just in time, too.
Both Fritia and Siris will have matching weapon skins for their outfits, to complete the look.
Maintenance
Maintenance this time around is scheduled for November 7 at 9:50AM, UTC+8 (convert to your time zone here). I guess a lot of people complained about missing out on their dailies last time, so it's shifted back to around the time that it was before. It's still going to take about seven hours though, so hopefully you have something to keep yourself busy with then. The usual maintenance rewards of 420 Digicash, 25,000 Silverbucks, and a 60AP stamina refill will be given out afterward.
Some notable changes and feature additions:
- Haru, Tess, and Siris are getting their CN voiceovers replaced as part of the gradual transition to new CN VAs. Some of the new VAs that have been added so far haven't quite hit the same as the original ones for me, so I'm curious to see how this batch will do.
- Fritia's getting her trust story rewritten, so go and read her current one now about getting more exercise and Fritia being guilty about one of her inventions being used to kill people while you still can.
- The Decomposition Lab is getting new things to buy other than manifestation fragments, so people with every character maxed and a gazillion spare shards can finally put them to use.
- Acacia - Redacted, Acacia - Kaguya and Haru - Absconditus will have their standard abilities changed to continuously be casted by holding down the standard skill button.
That's it for here. Oh yeah, remember to bring a water bottle with you. Deserts aren't exactly known for having easily-accessible water fountains, after all.
